Patient groups and empowered consumers nominate 20 more health apps, Now featured on myhealthapps.net

  • Taken together, the 20 health apps are in 17 languages —Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish
  •  The subject matter of these 20 health apps include: • management of life style; • improving access to healthcare; • medicine management; and • management of medical conditions.
  • The following specialties are covered by the apps: —allergy; arthritis; asthma; breast cancer; diabetes; learning disabilities; mental health; neck/throat cancer; obesity; Parkinson’s disease; pregnancy; smoking cessation; and weight control
  • One app (Doctoralia from Spain) has been approved by the NHS Library of Health Apps 
  • One app (mySugr Companion from Austria) has been approved by the FDA

During January-February 2014, 50 patient groups/empowered consumers from across the world nominated 20 new and diverse health apps for inclusion in myhealthapps.net.  

Six of these 20 apps received a 5-star rating from myhealthapps.net:

  • BabyWatch. Allows an unborn baby’s heart beat to be monitored.
  • Doctoralia. Locates doctors’ clinics and medical centres (including those closest to the user) in 21 countries.
  • e-symptoms. Diary that matches allergy symptoms with possible environmental causes [in Switzerland only].
  • Impf-Uhr. Tracks the dates on which an individual (and their family) are due to be vaccinated [in Germany only].
  • Pictello. Communication tool for people who have difficulty speaking.
  • Proloquo4Text. Another communication tool for people who have difficulty speaking.

A 5-heart rating from myhealthapps.net (MHA) indicates that a health app can demonstrate all of the five major qualities that patients/health-oriented consumers say they require of health apps:

  1. Helps you control your condition/stay healthy.
  2. Is trustworthy.
  3. Is easy to use.
  4. Allows networking with people like you/who understand you.
  5. Can be used regularly.
